It was another tough day at the office for Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan. With captaincy weight clearly on his shoulders, his poor form continued as he fell cheaply in the first ODI against South Africa at Boland Park, Paarl.

Baartman’s Magic Delivery Sent Rizwan Packing for 1

Chasing a tricky 240, Pakistan’s top order wobbled early, leaving the team with a mountain to climb. On the very first ball of the 17th over, Ottneil Baartman bowled a length delivery that nipped back sharply into the pads.

Mohammad Rizwan, looking to push forward, completely missed the ball as it crashed onto his off stump. The Pakisan captain was dismissed for just 1 off 5 balls and he had to take a long and frustrating walk back to the pavilion.

This wicket left Pakistan in deep trouble at 52/3 in 16.1 overs. Earlier, Abdullah Shafique had already been sent packing for a duck by Marco Jansen, who found the perfect delivery to clean him up. Baartman wasn’t done either as he also got Babar Azam for 23 off 38 balls.

With three wickets down, Pakistan’s innings is hanging by a thread. Saim Ayub and Kamran Ghulam are left in the middle with the unenviable task of steadying the ship. Another wicket here, and the floodgates could open. The pressure is on, and both batters know it is time to dig in and fight back.

Pakistan still need 188 runs to win and take a 1-0 lead in the series. It’s not over yet, but the visitors will need nerves of steel and a proper partnership to get over the line.

Klaasen Leads South Africa to 239

Earlier in the day, South Africa posted a fighting total of 239/9 in their 50 overs, thanks to a solid knock by Heinrich Klaasen. The Protean stumper was the top-scorer for his side as he slammed a brilliant 86 off 97 deliveries and held the innings together. He was well supported by Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, and skipper Aiden Markram, who chipped in with valuable cameos.

Pakistan’s bowlers didn’t let South Africa run away with the game, though. Salman Agha was the pick of the lot, showing off his skills with the ball. He picked up four crucial wickets and kept the Proteas in check during the middle overs.
