Days after India named their squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, promising batter Rinku Singh recorded a failure as he was dismissed cheaply in Kolkata Knight Riders' ongoing IPL 2024 clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.

Coming at number six, Rinku could score only nine runs before MI's veteran spinner Piyush Chawla got rid of him.

The incident occurred during the seventh over of KKR's innings when they were rocked by the initial collapse, triggered by Nuwan Thushara

MI skipper Hardik Pandya's decision to bring Chawla into the attack worked wonders, with the wily tweaker getting Rinku on his very first delivery.

Coming over the wicket, Chawla bowled a tossed-up googly as Rinku tried to play it in the on side. However, while doing so, the southpaw ended up playing it against the turn, leading to a top-edge.

Chawla exhibited commendable athleticism on his follow through, grabbing a sharp catch and leading to Rinku's departure.

The Uttar Pradesh batter hasn't had a great IPL season so far, managing only 132 runs in nine outings. His dismissal was a massive setback for KKR as it reduced them to five down inside seven overs.

As of writing, the Knight Riders were reeling at 72 for five in nine overs, with Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey trying to bail them out of trouble.
