Rohit Dropped KL Rahul From The World Cup Squad? Source Makes Stunning Revelation

In a surprising disclosure, it has been revealed that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul was informed by Indian skipper Rohit Sharma before the start of IPL 2024 that he would not be considered for the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

Rahul was excluded from the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024 on Tuesday, with Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson making it to the 15-member squad.

This decision raised eyebrows, considering Rahul's impressive performance in the IPL this year, where he has scored 406 runs in ten innings at an average of 40.60 and a strike rate of over 142.96 for LSG. All these runs were scored at the top of the order.

Stunning revelation from an LSG source

One possible reason for the selectors' preference for Samson and Pant over Rahul could be that the LSG batter mostly plays in the top order. In T20Is, Rahul has batted in 54 innings as an opener, 10 innings at No. 3, and just four at No. 4. However, there were speculations of him batting in the middle-order for LSG with the World Cup selection looming.

Lucknow traded in Devdutt Padikkal, a top-order player, who seemed to be Rahul's replacement as LSG opener. However, that did not happen, and now a source close to LSG has revealed the reason why Rahul did not bat in the middle-order for his IPL franchise.

"KL Rahul was prepared to bat at middle-order in LSG that's why we have brought Padikkal into our side. But a couple days ago of IPL,KL had a chat with Rohit & He cleared Kl Rahul that he is not in mix, that's why Kl opened in IPL,"  said a source close to LSG.

Given Rahul's limited experience batting in the middle order, it would have been challenging to choose him over Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube.
