[Watch] Ravindra Jadeja's Unlucky Dismissal As Joe Root Displays His Magic Again

An unlikely force came in the way of Ravindra Jadeja's smooth parade towards what should've been another Test hundred as the well-set allrounder was dismissed by England part-timer Joe Root on Day 3 of the Hyderabad Test.

Jadeja, who had batted with great patience and restraint for his marathon knock of 87 to stretch India's first-innings lead to a daunting 190 runs, was out LBW on a classical off-spinner from Root as he did the left-hander with the drift and turned one past his inside edge.

Even as the umpire raised his finger, Jadeja wasn't entirely convinced of the point of contact with his pads with the delivery going close to his edge and opted for the review. But despite doubts whether the ball hit the pad first or the inside edge, the TV umpire went with his on-field partner.

The third umpire merely followed the procedure in place as per the ICC regulations in giving Jadeja out. Even as the ball seems to have jammed into the inside edge and the front pad at the same time, since Jadeja was given on the field, the official upstairs deemed the contact clean and asked for the ball-tracking.

With both the point of contact and deflection on the stumps upholding the 'Umpire's Call', the decision went in favour of Root, who stood jubilant over his third wicket of the innings and that too against Jadeja as he aimed for much-deserved hundred.

Root had earlier dismissed two other established batters - Yashasvi Jaiswal (80) and KS Bharat (41) - in the middle and finished off the innings as England's unexpected best bowler, taking 4 for 79. The great batter continued his love affair with India as an off-spinner, having taken a fifer here last tour in Ahmedabad.
