[Watch] Rajat Patidar's Unlucky Dismissal on Debut Courtesy of Ben Foakes' Sharp Catch

In a rather unfortunate debut against England in the ongoing second Test of the five-match series in Vizag, Indian batsman Rajat Patidar faced a disappointing dismissal, scoring a mere 9 runs in the second innings.

Debut despair for Patidar as foakes takes spectacular catch

The incident unfolded during the final ball of the 31st over bowled by England's Rehan Ahmed. Patidar, attempting to punch a delivery in front of square was undone by a ball that unexpectedly kept low, clipping the bottom edge of his bat.

The moment was marked by an exceptional catch from England's wicketkeeper Ben Foakes, who demonstrated sharp reflexes as the ball changed direction swiftly post-edge, leading to Patidar's early departure from the crease.

This dismissal added to Patidar's woes, as his first innings had also seen him fall prey to Ahmed. On that occasion, a well-executed googly that turned and bounced more than anticipated resulted in Patidar's dismissal for 32 runs. Despite attempting a defensive shot, the ball struck the left half of his bat, took an unfortunate trajectory backwards, and ultimately hit the stumps.

Patidar's scores of 32 and 9, though modest, belie the quality of his play during his time at the wicket. His debut was marred by misfortune in both innings, with challenging deliveries from Ahmed proving to be his undoing.

At the time of writing this article, India stands at 126/4 after 33 overs, bolstered by Shubman Gill's fifty. The team had suffered early setbacks with the loss of openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Despite a promising partnership between Gill and Shreyas Iyer, the latter's dismissal followed by Patidar’s exit has left India hoping for a solid stand between Gill and Axar Patel to extend their lead beyond the current 269 runs and set a challenging target for England.
