Ottniel Baartman has been preferred over talented Gerald Coetzee by South Africa in their first game of T20 World Cup 2024 against Sri Lanka and the man displayed his talent straightaway, with a wicket of Pathum Nissanka in his very first ball.

The right-arm pacer was given his first shot in the 4th over of the match, and he Baartman bowled it full and outside off. Nissanka threw his bat at it, as he was itching to break the shackles, but ended up getting a thick outside edge that went straight to Heinrich Klaasen at third man.

He took an easy catch and Sri Lanka lost their first wicket with pitch assisting pacer and run-scoring looking pretty difficult.

Earlier, Wanindu Hasaranga won the toss and elected to bat first and he would have hoped for a better start from his openers. South African bowlers though have been upto the mark right from the first over and Sri Lanka will have to find a way to get to a competitive total if they want to get off to a winning start in this all-important T20 World Cup 2024.
