In the quest to reach the Super 8 stage, England needed a strong start against Oman, and they got exactly that in the form of an early wicket from Jofra Archer.

England Opted to bowl first, and Oman had a horrendous start, losing their key player, Pratik Athavale in the second over of the day. Athavale, who has been Oman's best player in the T20 World Cup 2024, failed to deliver the goods and fell cheaply for 5.

Archer bowled a slightly short of length ball outside the off and the Oman batter was hurried by the delivery as he mistimed the ball. Phil Salt at short-cover came forward, judged the ball to perfection and dived forward to grab the ball inches above the ball.

Archer was jubail, and so was the entire England side as they had got rid off the danger man. One brought the downfall of another as Archer struck once again and dismissed Aqib Ilyas, before the batter could even settle in properly.

England are in dire need of a victory. Their first match against Scotland was abandoned, and the defending champions then suffered a humiliating loss at the hands of rivals, Australia in their last match. The Jos buttler have to win this game and the next contest by big margins to stay alive in the Super 8 race.
