In a heated moment occurred on Day 1 of the Perth Test between India and Australia, Marnus Labuschagne was confronted by Mohammed Siraj over obstruction allegations. With the tensions already high due to constant sledging, Virat Kohli purposely dislodged the bails to rile up Labuschagne and break his focus.

Day 1 of the Perth Test between India and Australia delivered the hype around the Border-Gavaskar series rivalry as both sides came out all guns blazing on a bowler-friendly wicket. While the visitors were bowled out for 150 batting first, skipper Jasprit Bumrah led from the front with a sensational reply.

He picked 3 wickets in his first spell to dismantle the top order before Mohammed Siraj opened his account to dismiss Mitchell Marsh. However, Marcus Labuschagne was playing a patience game with 2 runs off 52 deliveries to hold on to one end.  During the 13th over, he had a heated battle with Siraj before Virat Kohli stepped in to add fuel to the burning fire.

Siraj confronts Labuschagne over obstruction act

Indian bowlers charged at Marnus Labuschagne to hit him on the chest and break his concentration. In the 13th over, a short ball from Siraj bounced off Marnus’ thigh pad as he contemplated a single. While Siraj extended his followthrough to collect the ball for a runout throw, Labuschagne pushed the ball with the bat, leading to a heated confrontation. Since Labuschagne was out of the crease, he had no business touching the ball, and that pissed Siraj.

Amid this, Virat Kohli rushed from slip cordon to take the ball and dislodge the bails. It was a distracting technique as Marcus Labuschagne was well inside the crease. Notably, India missed a trick by not appealing as Labuschagne could have been dismissed for obstructing the field.

Regardless, Mohammed Siraj got his revenge in the same spell. A full ball pitched outside off nipped in after hitting the seam. Labuschagne was beaten trying to flick and trapped LBW on the front pad. Siraj’s loud appeal was upheld by on-field umpires before Marnus tested his luck with a review. However, three reds flashed on the big screen as Marnus Labuschagne walked off after scoring 2 runs off 52 balls.
