Markhors captain Mohammad Rizwan slapped a swift 45 against Panthers bowlers in the opening game of the 2024 Champions One-Day Cup season at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium on September 12. Batting at number four and arriving to the crease at 64-2 in 13.2 overs, Rizwan played a steady hand in his 133-run partnership for the third wicket with centurion and number three batter Kamran Ghulam.

Just as Rizwan was aiming to switch gears in the backend of the Markhors innings, the senior wicketkeeper-batter was trapped in front of stumps by Panthers’ new-ball striker Mohammad Hasnain.

Markhors captain Mohammad Rizwan belted three huge sixes at Iqbal Stadium in his 57-ball knock of 45 runs against Panthers.

The 32-year-old lifted his team from an unwavering 64-2 in 13.2 overs to 197 in 33 overs before his untimely departure at the hands of Pakistan’s discarded white-ball fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain.

With Mohammad Rizwan walking back to the sheds at 197-3, number three batter Kamran Ghulam marched on to list his seventh List A hundred by making 115 runs from 102 balls. Ghulam also shared a fresh 62-run partnership with Iftikhar Ahmed for the fifth wicket.

Iftikhar ended up making 57* from 44 balls with seven boundaries and a six, and Abdul Samad at number seven blasted 62* off just 25 deliveries to blaze Markhors to a monumental 347-6 from 50 overs. Samad slapped four boundaries and six sweltering maximums in his turbulent knock to enforce some late turbo-charging for the Markhors.

Among the Panthers bowlers, new-ball striker Mohammad Hasnain claimed figures of 2-61 from 10 overs. His pace partner Amad Butt also picked up a wicket, but at the cost of 89 runs off his 10 overs. Right-arm spinner Mubasir Khan unfurled the spell of the high-scoring innings by getting rid of Fakhar Zaman and Agha Salman while conceding just 36 runs off his nine overs.
