Mohammad Rizwan was at his very best on Friday during Pakistan’s must-win World Cup tie against South Africa in Chennai. The swashbuckling wicket-keeper batter seemed aggresive on the field, and the one shot that he hit against Keshav Maharaj spoke volumes.

Rizwan tends to take some time in the middle before breaking the shackles in limited-overs cricket. However, against South Africa, he went for a big slog sweep against Keshav Maharaj quite early, and the timing of that shot was so perfect that it went into the stands for a 85-metre long six.

Each and every fan in Chennai went berserk after Rizwan’s six, as it was the first maximum of the day.

However, Rizwan failed to convert his start into anything substantial. The experienced batter was outfoxed by Gerald Coetzee after scoring a quickfire 27-ball 31. With that, Pakistan slipped to 86/3 after opting to bat first against the mighty Proteas.

As of writing, the Men in Green are batting on 88/3 after 17 overs. The onus will be on Babar Azam, who is on 27* off 38 deliveries, to steady the ship alongside Iftikhar Ahmed.
