Swashbuckling Afghan finisher Mohammad Nabi missed out on a well-deserved century, as Taskin Ahmed dismissed him in the slog overs. Coming at number seven, Nabi hammered 84 runs off just 79 deliveries before Taskin sent him packing towards the backend of the innings.
The incident occurred during the 48th over of Afghanistan's innings when Nabi was trying to ensure a fitting finish for his side. He came out to bat when Afghanistan were reeling at 71 for five, forming a priceless sixth wicket partnership with skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi.
Despite losing Shahidi and Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi fought like a lone warrior, helping the hosts breach the 200-run mark. However, he couldn't bring up his century, with Taskin getting his prized scalp.
From over the wicket, Taskin Ahmed surprised Nabi with a sharp short ball, which the batter pulled in a bid to collect six runs. However, he only managed a top edge, as Tanzid Hasan took a simple catch to end his long stay in the middle. Thus, Nabi, who looked all set for a memorable ton, made his way back to the dugout, contributing 84 runs to Afghanistan's total.

Afghanistan had a forgettable start to the game, as Mustafizur Rahman ran through their top order, leaving them tottering at 35 for four at one stage. However, Nabi formed a magnificent stand with Shahidi, ensuring a competitive total for his side. After getting Nabi, Taskin Ahmed bagged two more wickets to complete his five-wicket haul. As a result, Afghanistan were bowled out for 235 runs in the first ODI in Sharjah.
