Every player in the world has its own signature shot to mark his or her arrival to the crease and it's an elegant cover drive which is the favorite for West Indies’ swashbuckling right hander Shai Hope. Yes, the 31-year-old is currently playing for Dubai Capitals in the ongoing International League T20 (ILT20) and played a beautiful cover drive while opening the innings against Desert Vipers in the Qualifier 1 match.

Shai Hope Creams A Classic Drive Off Amir

Mohammad Amir was the bowler who got hit through the covers by Hope, leaving the veteran pacer look clueless in the early phase of the powerplay. The beautiful shot came off Hope’s blade during the fourth delivery of the third over of the innings as the Capitals were chasing a 190-run target to win the first Qualifier and get through to the Final.

It was a good length delivery from Amir and Hope just waited to time it beautifully through the cover and mid-off fielder. Earlier in the first over, Hope’s fellow opening partner Adam Rossington also hit Amir for a couple of boundaries and really never allowed the left-arm seamer to settle and get the ball to do the talking.

After conceding 17 runs from the first two overs in the powerplay, Amir went on to concede another 15 runs in his third over, finishing the night with a below average figures of none for 32 in 3 overs.

Earlier in the game, Dubai Capitals won the toss and asked Desert Vipers to bat first. Alex Hales got the Vipers off to a flier as the Englishman was at his aggressive best, taking Vipers’ score to 84 for the loss of one wicket at the end of the powerplay.

Hales smashes six sixes and five boundaries before falling for 67 off 32, setting the foundation for a huge total. However, following Hales’ batting carnage, the Vipers never got going and lost the momentum at the very wrong time.

Max Holden (36 off 26) and Dan Lawrence (35 off 25) started their innings well but failed to capitalize it to a big score and the Vipers finished with 189 for 7 at the end of the 20 overs. With the ball, Qais Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers for the Capitals as he took the two important wickets of Holden and Sam Curran. Gulbadin Naib also bowled economically and most importantly got the wicket of dangerous looking Hales in his three overs’ spell.
