Matheesha Pathirana raged through Galle Marvels batting line-up to headline Colombo Strikers’ emphatic seven-wicket win in match number 19 of the ongoing LPL 2024 season. The speedster claimed figures of 4-20 from his 3.5 overs, and was fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ after his bowling spectacle.

As part of his scintillating four-fer, Pathirana mopped up Galle Marvels tail in the final over of the innings by cleaning up Maheesh Theekshana and Jeffrey Vandersay with searing Yorkers in successive deliveries.

Matheesha Pathirana dismissed Galle Marvels’ well-set middle-order batter Sahan Arachchige in just the second over of his spell. The cricketer added three more wickets to his tally in the final over of the Galle Marvels innings to finish with figures of 4-20.

After removing Janith Liyanage, the speedster blitzed through tailenders Maheesh Theekshana and Jeffrey Vandersay with searing Yorkers in consecutive deliveries to mop up the Galle Marvels innings for 138.

Apart from Matheesha Pathirana, his bowling teammates Dunith Wellalage and Shadab Khan also chipped in with two wickets each.

Later in the run-chase, Colombo Strikers number three batter Muhammad Waseem flogged 50 runs from 44 balls before Glenn Phillips and Sadeera Samarawickrama steered their team to a seven-wicket victory in the penultimate over of the match.

Meanwhile, Matheesha Pathirana’s match-winning spell extended his LPL 2024 tally to 10 wickets from the first seven innings of the tournament. The young fast bowler also claimed a four-wicket haul against Kandy Falcons back on July 6.
