Aiden Markram has been one of the best white-ball batters for South Africa in the last few years, and he showcased his prowess yet again in Proteas' World Cup opener against Sri Lanka in Delhi.

Put into bat, South Africa made the most of the batting conditions with a brilliant attacking display. Hundreds from Quinton de Kock, and Rassie van der Dussen had taken South Africa to a position of strength, however, the dismissals of both the batters had brought a ray of hope in the Sri Lankan camp.

However, Markram had some other plans as he targeted the Lankan bowlers right from the word go and took them to the cleaners.

The Proteas batter reached his fifty in no time, and the hallmark of his magnificent innings was the innovative reverse scoop over third man.

Dilshan Madushanka bowled a length ball outside the off-stump and Markram was ready with his shot. He used the pace of the delivery and placed it precisely over the short-third man fielder for a boundary. The timing on his attempted reverse scoop was impeccable.

Madushanka looked shell-shocked as he didn't expect Markram to time the ball so well. At the moment, South Africa are inching closer towards the 400-run mark. Moreover, Markram is etching closer to a scintillating ton.
