South African fast bowler Kwena Maphaka held on to a sensational catch off his own bowling to get rid of Pakistan captain and number four batter Mohammad Rizwan. At a time when Rizwan was approaching a well-deserved century in the 36th over of the Pakistan innings, the senior batter chipped one back to the young Proteas pacer.

Kwena Maphaka does a somersault on debut

Making his ODI debut for South Africa, 18-year-old Kwena Maphaka performed a somersault to complete a catch off his own bowling in the 36th over of the Pakistani innings. The youngster deceived well-set Pakistani batter and captain Mohammad Rizwan with a slightly slower delivery before holding on to a sensational caught-and-bowl.

Curtailing Rizwan’s well-set stay at 80 from 82 balls, Kwena Maphaka’s welcome strike marked Pakistan’s fourth casualty of the high-scoring innings.

Earlier in the match, Kwena Maphaka also bounced out Pakistan opener and Paarl’s centurion Saim Ayub inside the first 10 overs.

Taking field at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town, South African captain and comeback man Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to field first. The ‘Men in Green’ crossed the 250-run mark during the slog overs despite losing Saim Ayub and fellow opener Abdullah Shafique for a duck early in the innings.

Babar Azam and captain Mohammad Rizwan rescued Pakistan’s sinking ship with a commanding 115-run stand for the third wicket. The two cricketers unfurled majestic half-centuries as the visitors aim to close off the series in Cape Town.

Rizwan and co. had won the series-opener a couple of days ago in a final-over thriller that ensued at the Boland Park.
