Australia’s Phoebe Litchfield had fans jumping out of their seats with an absolute screamer during the third and final ODI against England at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. The youngster showed why she’s one of the best fielders going around, pulling off a catch that had ‘unbelievable’ written all over it.
Litchfield’s Unreal Grab Lights Up Hobart
It all went down in the 37th over. Alana King tossed one up, inviting Danielle Wyatt-Hodge to go big. Wyatt went for the slog, aiming to clear the leg side, but the ball caught the leading edge and soared over covers.
Phoebe Litchfield, sharp as ever, sprinted back, eyes locked on the ball, and dived full-stretch to complete a sensational catch. It was the kind of moment you rewind and watch again because you can’t believe your eyes. This catch was also reminiscent of Travis Head’s catch in the ODI World Cup 2023 final to dismiss Rohit Sharma.
Wyatt was sent back to the pavillion for 35 off 32 balls which left England wobbling at 200/5. That one piece of brilliance set the tone for what was to come: a total collapse.
England’s Batting Goes Downhill
After Wyatt’s exit, England’s chase fell apart faster than a house of cards in a hurricane. Alana King turned up the heat with a stunning five-wicket haul, spinning a web England couldn’t escape. From a team that once looked like they might make a game of it, England crumbled to 222 all out, handing Australia a massive 86-run win and a 3-0 series whitewash.
Gardner Smashes A Brilliant Ton
Earlier in the day, Australia’s batters did what they do best: pile on the runs. Ashleigh Gardner was the star of the show as she smashed a brilliant 102 that left England’s bowlers searching for answers.
Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath chipped in with classy fifties, keeping the runs flowing. And just when England thought it couldn’t get worse, Georgia Wareham unleashed a whirlwind knock, blasting 38 off just 12 balls. Her late fireworks powered Australia to a colossal 308/2.
