Abhishek Sharma smashed a six over back foot, that too on the back foot, on Monday (May 6) during Match 55 of IPL 2024 between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium. 

Lasith Malinga, Mumbai's bowling coach, was highly impressed by the manner in which Abhishek dispatched debutant Anshul Kamboj out of the park.

It was a length ball by Kamboj, and Abhishek, the SRH opener, waited for it before freeing his arms for an audacious six. Malinga, who was sitting in the MI dugout, made a gesture of applause for Abhishek, who has been in imperious form in IPL 2024.

It was a much-needed start for SRH, whom Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to field first. 

However, Abhishek failed to convert his start into anything substantial. The Southpaw fell for a 15-ball 11, as Jasprit Bumrah drew the first blood yet again.

At the time of writing this, SRH are 56/1 after six overs, with Travis Head and Mayank Agarwal in the middle, on 38* and 0* respectively. Bumrah, meanwhile, conceded nine runs off his first two overs.
