Kusal Mendis during his century against Pakistan (X.com)
Kusal Mendis has been in the form of his life in recent times and it seems like he has taken his game to another level in this World Cup 2023. In Sri Lanka's opening game of World Cup 2023, Mendis smashed South African bowlers all over the park during his belligerent knock of 76 off 42 balls. Now in the second game, he is taking apart Pakistan's bowling attack with some breathtaking strokeplay and has notched up a fastest century by Sri Lankan in World Cup. He got to his century in just 65 balls and has shocked everyone with his class and power.

Kusal Mendis eventually departed for 122 off 77 balls, but the damage was done till then, as by the time Mendis departed, Sri Lanka had 218 runs on the board in the 29th over. Just before he departed, Mendis had tonked Hasan Ali for two consecutive sixes before eventually getting holed out at the deep in a bid to make it three in a row.
The shot that took him to his hundred was also quite an exhilarating one. It was a fullish delivery on middle and Mendis, with the use of his strong bottom hand, tonked it over deep mid-wicket. He did that with some great ease and swag, taking flamboyance to an optimum level.
At the time of writing, Sri Lanka are 230-4 at the end of 31 overs and would be looking to post something over 350 at least against a strong Pakistan unit.
