In the two-match series between South Africa and Sri Lanka, the former marched on with a confident 233-run victory in the first test at Kingsmead. In the second match, South Africa opted to bat first and posted a strong total of 358 runs. Ryan Rickelton (101) and Kyle Verreynne (105), were the main contributors to help Proteas put up such a huge score.

However, on day two of the second Test at St George's Park, spectators and commentators witnessed a rare and dramatic moment when Sri Lankan pacer Lahiru Kumara shattered Kagiso Rabada's bat with a fast seam-up delivery.

Rabada, coming in at No. 10, had a short but significant stint, contributing 23 runs off 40 balls, which included five boundaries. In the 90th over when Kumara delivered a well-pitched ball that seamed sharply, Rabada attempted a forward defensive shot, but the impact was so severe that it broke his bat just below the handle and from the shoulder, leaving the pieces dangling.

In a split second, Rabada instinctively released his bottom hand, before the ball hit, to cushion the blow, but that only added to the spectacle for the watchers.

Nevertheless, Kagiso Rabada's partnership with Kyle Verreynne added 56 runs for the ninth wicket, frustrating the Sri Lankan bowlers and further strengthening Proteas' innings.

Kumara's spell concluded with impressive figures of 4 for 79, which speaks much for his ability to trouble the openers as well as the tailenders. Meanwhile, Rabada's inning came to an end when Asitha Fernando clean-bowled him, breaking his ninth-wicket stand. South Africa ended up adding a challenging total in their first inning as Sri Lanka put up 242-3 at the end of Day 2.
