Cricket fans who have watched Jonty Rhodes on the field remember him fondly each time they see a brilliant effort. Recently, Kerala's Rohan Kunnummal reminded the fans of the South African legend with a brilliant effort in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 final.
Notably, Vidarbha and Kerala are taking on each other in the final of the Ranji Trophy at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. Kerala won the toss for the game and put Vidarbha to bat.
Vidarbha did not have a great start to their innings and were three down for 24 very quickly. From this stage, Danish Malewar and Karun Nair stitched together a partnership of 215 runs and scripted the comeback for the team.
Karun Nair displayed class during his knock of 86 runs from 188 deliveries and looked all set for a big hundred. However, Kunnumal's brilliance shattered the hopes for Nair.
Karun Nair's Innings Was Cut Short By Rohan Kunnumal
On the fourth delivery of the 82nd over, Apple bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside the off stump that Nair let go through to the keeper. The Kerala keeper failed to collect the ball and, as a result of the fumble, called for a bye single.
Nair was halfway down the track when Malewar sent him back. By this time, Kunnummal had collected the ball and aimed for the stumps at the striker's end. With a brilliant effort, the Kerala fielder hit the stumps, and it was enough to get rid of a diving Nair who was inches short of the crease.
