England pacer Josh Tongue provided the home side with a much-needed breakthrough at the stroke of the Lunch break at Lord's as he knocked over gritty opener Usman Khawaja on a 70-ball 17.

It all happened on the 1st delivery of the 24th over, when Tongue, after having challenged Khawaja with a series of outswingers, got one to nip back sharply into the left-hander.

Khawaja didn't expect the ball to jag back in so sharply, and so he decided to shoulder arms. To his agony, it nipped back off the seam, and rattled his off-stump, giving England a much-needed break.

Watch the dismissal here:

Earlier, England captain Ben Stokes won the toss, and under gloomy conditions, he decided to send the Australians into bat.

English seamers troubled both Warner and Khawaja outside the off-stump, but with no luck.

Khawaja could have been dismissed for 1 when he got a feather to an outside off-stump delivery from Anderson, but Joe Root ended up shelling the opportunity at 1st slip.

Stuart Broad, on the other hand, was continuously at it against Warner, and he could have easily knocked the southpaw over on 20, but for Ollie Pope, who dropped a regulation catch at 4th slip.

Warner made the most of the reprieve as he constantly looked for scoring opportunities to eventually take Australia's score past the 50-mark besides also bringing up his own half-century.

But, just as it looked as if Australia will go to Lunch unscathed, Tongue ensured that England pulled one back by seeing off the centurion from the last match.
