Joe Root dismissed [Source: @gavaskar_theman/X.Com]
Not often you see someone getting the better of Joe Root in Test cricket, but William O'Rourke is cut from a different cloth. The rising star of New Zealand cricket showed his class in the second session of Day 2 and scalped 3 quick wickets to derail England's momentum.
The top-4 English batter all got a start against the Kiwi bowlers, but they all threw their wickets away. Once Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley were dismissed, Joe Root, alongside Jacob Bethell looked to resurrect the sinking ship.
Root, looked in ominous touch and was scoring runs freely before the disaster struck in the form of O'Rourke. The New Zealand bowler delivered a hard length ball outside the off and it jagged back in sharply. Root was caught by surprise as he tried to drop his wrists, but it was all too late as the ball took the edge and the fielder at backward point took a simple catch.
O'Rourke runs riot on Day 2
Despite picking up two early wickets, England scored freely, courtesy of Joe Root, who looked threatening and scored a quick-fire 32 off 42 balls.
He was building up a partnership with Bethell before O'Rourke dismissed the left-handed Bethell for 12. He followed it up with the wicket of the new number one ranked Test batter, Harry Brook , and then the icing on the cake was the big wicket of Root.
While Brook departed for a duck, Root was looking good to reach yet another fifty, but could only score 32 runs as the team lost 3 quick wickets and are struggling at the moment.
