Bumrah dismisses Khawaja [Source: @cricketcomau/X.Com]
India finally got a breakthrough on the morning of Day 2 of the Gabba Test and it was the main man, Jasprit Bumrah who gave the inroad to dismiss Australian opener, Usman Khawaja. The premium India seamer planned the dismissal to perfection as Khawaja had no answer for it.
India opted to bowl first on Day 1, but under dark clouds and favourable bowling conditions, the Indian bowlers couldn't get their lines and lengths right, and for a change, Bumrah also had an off-day with the red cherry in hand.
He was too straight with the ball and Khawaja easily whipped him off his pads as the Indian bowler struggled against the left-right combination. However, as great bowlers do, they always comeback in style and Bumrah did exactly that on the morning of Day 2.
How Bumrah planned Khawaja's dismissal
As stated, Jasprit Bumrah was too straight on the first morning, and he corrected himself today as he bowled more towards the middle and off and tried to swing the ball away from the left hander. For the lefty, Bumrah came around the wicket and made sure that the ball didn't swing too much to miss the bat.
He bowled at middle and off, just to create a corridor of uncertainty for the left-handed batter. The good length delivery pitched and nipped away just enough to get the thick outside-edge as the keeper took a simple catch.
This is a hallmark of a great bowler as they always understand the context of the match and try different things to scalp a wicket. Bumrah made sure that Usman Khawaja was in two minds when playing his out-swinger.
