Joe Root is one of the greats of the game and has been in killer form in recent times, with centuries coming off his blade at regular intervals. In the second Test against New Zealand at Basin Reserve, the English legend smashed his 36th Test ton, equalling Indian legend Rahul Dravid in the longest format.

Joe Root's century helped England post a massive target of 583 infront of the home team and has put them in a commanding position to notch up another win. England were already ahead coming into their second outing with the bat as their bowlers ensured that they get 155 runs lead by cleaning up Kiwis for jus 125.

England Batters Make Merry In Good Batting Conditions

The English batters then stepped up and Duckett along with Bethell stretched England's lead further. Both of them fell in their 90s, but Joe Root was in no mood to throw it away and played some very positive cricket on his way to 36th Test ton. He hit 11 fours in his knock while Harry Brook and Ben Stokes also gave him good company with 55 and 49 respectively. Root got to his century with a trademark reverse-scoop off the bowling of William ORourke as he bowled it full and on middle and the English batter somehow managed to hit it over the keeper for a boundary.

England bowlers have managed to remove Kiwis top-order cleaply in the second innings as well and it seems that they would run away with another win and take an unassailable lead in the series. England won the first Test by eight wickets and it has been a great turnaround for Ben Stokes and company after they lost a series against Pakistan on turning decks.
