Veteran Indian speedster Ishant Sharma showcased his prowess in Delhi Capitals' IPL 2024 opener against Punjab Kings, as he castled Shikhar Dhawan with a ripper. After getting rid of the PBKS skipper, Sharma exhibited his fielding brilliance, running Jonny Bairstow out on his follow through.

The incident occurred in the fourth over of Punjab's innings when they had just lost Dhawan during the run chase. After conceding two boundaries in his first three deliveries, Sharma bowled a slower ball in the stumps, with Prabhsimran Singh playing it straight back to him.

While stopping the ball, Sharma got his fingertips on the ball that dislodged the bails in the non-striker's end.

As Bairstow was backing up, the Capitals players went upstairs straightaway as soon as the ball hit the stumps.

In the replay, the third umpire found a clear deflection off Sharma's finger, with Bairstow being short of the crease. Therefore, he declared the batter out, as Punjab lost the second wicket of their innings.

Earlier, riding on Abhishek Porel's final-over onslaught, Delhi Capitals posted a competitive 174-run total, making a remarkable comeback after the early jitters.

In response, Punjab Kings have raced to 59 for two in just 5.3 overs, with Prabhsimran and Sam Curran batting on 17* and 8*, respectively.
