McCarthy slammed Arshdeep for two sixes [Twitter]

It has been a tough few months for Arshdeep Singh, who has been in and out of the Indian white-ball team. A terrific exponent of the new ball, Arshdeep has struggled in the slog overs, and the batters have repeatedly taken advantage of it.

The pattern continued in the first T20I against Ireland, when the left-arm seamer started on a positive note under cloudy conditions, but faded away with the old ball.

With cloud covers on, Arshdeep made the ball talk and utilised the conditions to perfection. However, it was the unexpected storm that blew him away in the slog overs. At one stage, Ireland were 31 for 5, and were in danger of getting dismissed cheaply.

This is when Barry McCarthy came to life and took the Indian bowling apart. He took a special liking towards Arshdeep, as the Irish batter slammed him for two consecutive sixes in the last over and notched up a brilliant fifty.

McCarthy, stranded on 45 on the last ball of the 20th over, needed a six to bring up his fifty. Arshdeep, who has previously struggled to control his line and length in the slog overs, delivered a full toss and McCarthy smashed it over long-off to end the Irish innings in style.

In reply to Ireland's 139, India started well, but have lost two wickets for 47, with rain interrupting the match.
