New Zealand staved off a spirited United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 19 runs in the first T20I to take a 1-0 lead in the opening match of the three-game T20I series. 

The stage is now set for the second match this Saturday where the two teams will square off at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Batting first, New Zealand's total stood at a modest 155/6 with Tim Seifert scoring a fiery half-century. Although the Kiwis had a decent start, it was the noteworthy performances from Jimmy Neesham, Cole McConchie, and Rachin Ravindra at the death that bolstered the innings and helped them post a decent score.

UAE were on top needing only 72 runs off the last ten overs with six wickets in hand. The turning point came with New Zealand captain, Tim Southee's outstanding bowling performance. Southee rattled the UAE batting lineup, claiming 5/25 in his four overs, pushing the Kiwis towards a thrilling 19-run victory.

United Arab Emirates

While the UAE bowlers, particularly Junaid Siddique and Mohammed Faraazuddin, delivered commendable performances, restricting the mighty Blackcaps to a chaste score, their batting order couldn't capitalize.

Although Aryan Sharma's stellar half-century kept UAE in the hunt, the team's inexperience in crunch situations became evident as they fell short in their chase by 19 runs. They will look to bounce back from the defeat and level the series 1-1 by winning the second T20I.
