Pakistan vice-captain Shadab Khan had a moment of redemption during the second T20I against New Zealand at the University Oval, Dunedin, on March 18. After dropping an easy catch earlier in the same over, he made an incredible recovery by taking a stunning catch to dismiss Daryl Mitchell.
Shadab Khan Redeems Himself
The dramatic moment happened in the 13th over of Pakistan’s innings. Earlier in the over, Shadab dropped a simple catch of Mitchell Hay, leaving the team disappointed. But he quickly made up for it in style!
When Haris Rauf bowled an off-cutter outside off, Daryl Mitchell tried to push it but mistimed the shot. The ball flew towards short cover, and this time, Shadab was ready. He dived in the air, grabbed the ball brilliantly, and completed an absolute screamer of a catch!
As soon as he caught it, Shadab flashed a wide grin, knowing he had redeemed himself. His teammate, Haris Rauf, was super impressed and gave Shadab a big, tight hug to celebrate the moment.
New Zealand Chase Down The Target In 13 overs
New Zealand’s run chase started with some drama. Shaheen Afridi bowled a maiden over, even hitting the batter twice, but things turned around quickly. In the next over, he got smashed for seven sixes in 12 balls, putting Pakistan on the back foot.
Despite Pakistan managing to dismiss Tim Seifert (45 off 22 balls) and Finn Allen (38 off 16 balls), the damage was already done. New Zealand’s middle order wobbled slightly, but Mitchell Hay (21 off 16 balls)* held his ground and ensured they crossed the finish line with ease. In the end, New Zealand won by 5 wickets and took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
