Grace Harris pumps out 33-ball 60* in huge UP win

Australian-based UP Warriorz power-hitter Grace Harris bashed an unbeaten 60-run thunderclap off just 33 balls against WPL 2024 cellar dwellers Gujarat Giants.

Chasing 143 runs to register their second win of the season, Harris made her way to the crease inside the powerplay following the untimely departure of UP Warriorz captain and opening batter Alyssa Healy. At 50-2, the 30-year-old Australian all-rounder led her team’s recovery with a rapid 36-run stand with WPL debutant Chamari Athapaththu before taking them past the finishing line through a 30-ball 53-run partnership with unbeaten Deepti Sharma.

Harris belted two sixes and nine boundaries during the course of her run-chase heroics, including one off Sneh Rana to level-up up the scores in just 15.3 overs. The right-handed batter nudged a single off the very next delivery to bring up UP Warriorz’ six-wicket win in match number eight of the ongoing WPL 2024 season.

Apart from seizing the ‘Player of the Match’ award for her efforts, Grace Harris also catapulted herself to the top of the WPL 2024 run-scoring charts. She surpassed belligerent Indian opener and RCB captain Smriti Mandhana (130 runs) in the process by stretching her tournament tally to 153 runs.

Her batting average of 76.5 also marks the second highest among all WPL 2024 batters, behind Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, with more than 100 runs to their name.

Grace Harris will now turn up for UP Warriorz in their subsequent WPL 2024 challenge on March 4. They are lined up to face the RCB Women at the same venue to conclude their Bengaluru leg of the tournament.
