In a dramatic turn of events during the ongoing 1st semi-final between India and Australia at Dubai International Stadium, Mohammed Shami delivered a vital breakthrough for India, dismissing Australian captain Steve Smith at a crucial juncture of the match.

Smith, who had anchored Australia's innings with a composed 73 runs, was visibly frustrated after misjudging a full toss from Shami in the 37th over. The ball, pitched up at the stumps, was a chance for Smith to elevate his innings further.

However, in an uncommon lapse, Smith stepped down the track in an attempt to play a lofted extra cover drive but missed the ball completely. The ball crashed into the stumps, sending Smith back to the pavilion with his century hopes dashed. After the wicket, Gautam Gambhir was seen visibly pumped up in the dugout and gave an angry send-off to Smith.

The wicket came as a huge blow for Australia, who had been relying on Smith's steady presence in the middle to carry them through a challenging Indian attack. His departure, with the score at 73, left him disappointed, his body language reflecting a sense of disbelief at missing out on a potential match-winning knock.

The frustration was evident on Smith’s face as he slowly made his wðay back to the dugout, clearly upset with himself for letting the moment slip.

This wicket proved to be a turning point in the game, as soon after, Axar Patel struck with another critical wicket, removing Glenn Maxwell. With wickets falling at regular intervals, India is firmly back in the contest, gaining slightly an upper hand in the match. At the time of writing in this article, Australia are at 214/6 with Alex Carey and Dwarshuis at the crease.
