On Wednesday, January 29, Australia locked horns against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium. The visitors won the toss and opted to bat first.

The baggy greens made several changes to their preferred playing XI as they left out Sam Konstas, who impressed the critics in the India series. Meanwhile, as stand-in skipper Steve Smith confirmed in the pre-match media interaction, Australia opened with Usman Khawaja and Travis Head.

Travis Head Enters Carnage Mode

Talking about Head, he was promoted up the order to score quickly and put early runs on the board. The southpaw did exactly what the doctor ordered and bashed three fours in the first over of the match.

Further, Head went all guns blazing and completed his fifty in just 35 balls, which featured ten fours and a solitary six. The southpaw was looking in great touch and was eyeing a hundred, which is when he threw his wicket.

On the 3rd ball of the 15th ball, Prabath Jayasuriya bowled a flighted delivery, which Head looked to clear the long-on, but the hit resulted in a simple catch for Dinesh Chandimal. Watch the wicket here.

Travis Head Fails To Bag ICC Test Cricketer Of The Year Award

Notably, Head had a year to remember last year after he amassed 608 runs in just nine innings, which featured three centuries. Thus, as a result, he was nominated for ICC Test cricketer of the year award.

However, Jasprit Bumrah had a even better year with the ball and won the Test cricketer of the year award. Further, Bumrah also went onto win the ICC Cricketer of the year award. Talking about the ongoing match between Australia and Sri Lanka, the visitors are 127/1 after 26 overs.
