Forgotten Pakistan star Khushdil Shah delivered a sensational match-winning spell against Panthers in match number six of the Pakistan Champions T20 Cup 2024. Turning up for the Lions at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Khushdil picked up two wickets at an expense of just 26 runs in his four-over spell.
He even snared the all-important wicket of well-set Panthers opener Umar Siddique, when the latter was attempting to break the shackles in the middle overs. Khushdil’s Lions teammate Shahid Aziz assisted him with the breakthrough by grabbing an exceptional diving catch while running inwards from the deep midwicket.
Khushdil Shah makes strong case for PAK comeback
Khushdil Shah jumped back to Pakistan’s national reckoning by delivering an impactful and a match-winning spell for Lions in the Pakistan Champions T20 Cup 2024. An aggressive middle-order batter by profession, the cricketer picked up two wickets for just 26 to restrict Panthers for just 123 inside 20 overs after they had raced to 62-1 at one stage of the innings.
In Khushdil’s first wicket of the innings, that of a well-set Umar Siddique, the 29-year-old Pakistan discard received much assistance from Lions teammate Shahid Aziz, who snared an exhilarating diving catch while running forward from the deep midwicket region.
Lions ended up winning the match by eight wickets and with more than five overs to spare. Captain Imam-ul-Haq starred in the chase alongside opening partner Hasan Nawaz with swift 40s each. Shahzaib Khan also made an unbeaten 28 from just 18 balls at number three.
Nonetheless, Khushdil Shah’s heroics with the ball turned out to be one of the defining moments of the match.
The 29-year-old, having played 10 ODIs and 27 T20I matches for Pakistan, played the last of those internationals back in October 2023 during the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
