Pakistan gave the opportunity to Fakhar Zaman instead of Abdullah Shafique on Friday in their World Cup 2023 opener against the Netherlands, taking place at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. However, the veteran opener failed to make the most out of it, falling to Logan van Beek as early as the fourth over of Pakistan's innings.
Fakhar seemed uncomfortable at the crease right from the beginning. Then, against Logan van Beek, he finally lost his wicket when a length delivery clocked at 137 kph came towards him. The Pakistani opener could only spoon it straight to the Dutch bowler, whose safe hands close to his left shoulder in the follow-through made sure his success.
Although Fakhar struck three fours in his 15-ball 12, he did not seem high on confidence at all. And now, with his latest failure, it is uncertain whether he will get another chance in the upcoming fixtures for the Men in Green.
At the time of writing, Pakistan are batting nervously against the Netherlands, having posted 28/1 in seven overs. Babar Azam is on 4* off 13 balls, while Imam-ul-Haq is on 10* off 15 deliveries.
