Playing a fine hand with the bat, opening the innings for New Zealand, Will Young is making heads turn in the Champions Trophy 2025 opener against Pakistan. The right-hander, hailing from New Plymouth, has been one of the most consistent performers for the Black Caps.
In the ongoing first match of the Champions Trophy 2025, happening at the National Stadium in Karachi, New Zealand were put into bat first by the hosts Pakistan, and they accepted the invitation gracefully.
As their opener, Will Young is doing a commendable job with the bat. The 32-year-old, who opened the batting with Devon Conway, is currently on 89 after the conclusion of 30 overs. Having faced 94 deliveries, he has found nine boundaries and a maximum to his name, nearing his fourth century in ODI cricket.
With a high-profile century on the radar, Young has received the backing of the BlackCaps side for the last few years with his top-notch consistent performances with the bat.
Will Young's IPL 2025 Team And Price
However, things weren’t great for Young at the IPL 2025 auction that happened in November last year, where he went unsold after registering himself at the base price of ₹1.25 crores in the capped batters category.
Will went unsold among several high-profile names, but there are chances that he could be drafted in as a replacement for any player who gets injured or gets ruled out of the tournament.
Will's overall T20 career stats see him having amassed 2500+ runs in 114 games at a strike rate of 128.89, averaging 24.64. Looking at this, there is a high chance that he could get a nod by one of the IPL franchises.
