Daryl Mitchell has emerged as one of the most consistent batters in New Zealand cricket in last couple of years. Everytime he walks onto the field, he displays great ease in tackling both pace and spin. In the World Cup 2023 game against Australia, he once again showed his class and struck a well-compiled 42-ball fifty.

He got to his fifty with an authoritative shot as well against Australia's best white-ball bowler Mitchell Starc. The left-arm pacer came 'round the wicket and bowled just short of good length, outside off. Daryl Mitchell on his part stayed tall and slapped it hard as the ball travelled through the extra cover region towards the fence in a flash.

He looked set for a big hundred again as he did against India but was outfoxed by a clever delivery from Zampa in the 24th over, bringing an end to a promising knock that kept New Zealand in the game as they try to chase down 389. In his fifty, Mitchell hit six fours and one maximum and his wicket has pegged back Kiwis who are in the danger of facing their second loss in a row.
