Australian keeper, Alex Carey is generally has safe pair of hands behind the stumps, however, during the 4th day of the first Test match, the keeper evoked controversy as his stumping dismissal of Kusal Mendis created a stir amongst the cricketing fans. It seems as if the laws of the game was violated, but the umpire's decision went in favour of the Aussie keeper.

Unlike an lbw or a close catching call, stumping dismissals are rather easy to give, however, the spirit of the game was questioned when Carey dislodged the bails in a flash, but it seems he did it with his hands, rather than the ball.

The incident occurred when Nathan Lyon bowled a straighter one and Mendis played for the off break as he misses his attempted flick shot. The Sri Lankan batter lost his balance as Alex Carey juggled with the ball, but managed to dislodge the bails.

However, at first, it looked as if the keeper had removed his bails with his gloves, and despite not getting any solid evidence, the third umpire gave it out. However, after looking it closely, it felt as if the ball had no contact with the bails.

Australia on the verge of defeat

Sri Lanka got bundled out for a paltry 165 in their first innings, and Australia enforced the follow-on. The Lankan Lions, for some reason failed to counter the spin threat from the Aussies and have lost 9 wickets, and are on the verge of an embarrassing defeat at home.

Australia batted first and posted a mammoth 654 for 6 as Sri Lanka failed to contain them and now look down and out as the Australian bowlers require just one wicket to win the match.
