Scotland fast bowler Charlie Cassell dismantled Oman on his ODI debut during his team’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match at Dundee’s Forthill. The speedster picked up seven wickets in 5.4 overs at the expense of just 21 runs to envelop Oman’s entire innings for 91.

Cassell picked up two wickets in the first two balls of his international career, and three within the first four deliveries.

The right-arm fast bowler also dismissed Oman’s middle-order batter Shoaib Khan in the following over to hold figures of 0-4 at one stage of the match.

Charlie Cassell breaks Kagiso Rabada’s debut record

Charlie Cassell claimed figures of 7-21 in just 5.4 overs, on his ODI debut no less, to headline Scotland’s eight-wicket win over Oman.

Remarkably, Cassell’s match-winning spell now marks the best ODI figures for any cricketer on debut, surpassing Kagiso Rabada’s nine-year-old world record.

Back in July 2015, South African quick Kagiso Rabada collected figures of 6-16 against Bangladesh in Mirpur.

His record stood tall in the ODI arena for over nine years, until it was usurped by Charlie Cassell’s demolishing act against Oman in Dundee.

Cassell was included in Scotland’s line-up as a replacement for fast bowler Chris Sole, who tendered himself unavailable for personal reasons.

Apart from Cassell, fellow pacemen Brad Currie, Brandon McMullen and Gavin Main also picked up a wicket each to wrap up Oman’s innings for 91 in 21.4 overs.

Later in the run-chase, Scotland opener George Munsey made 23, while unbeaten batters, Brandon McMullen (37* off 43 balls) and captain Richie Berrington (24* off 28 balls), ensured their team cruised past the finishing line with eight wickets and nearly 33 overs to spare.
