A direct hit near the boundary line has always been an exciting moment to witness. Similarly, Azmatullah Omarzai pulled off the same on Friday (November 3) during Afghanistan’s World Cup match against the Netherlands in Lucknow. And it was a well-set Max O’Dowd who was at the receiving end.

The Dutch opener, who was not at his best in the World Cup 2023, finally showed composure against Afghanistan in Lucknow. With the help of nine gorgeous fours, he raced to 42 off only 40 balls.

However, his heart was broken during the 12th over of the Netherlands’ innings when he went for a paddle sweep against Mohammad Nabi, and urged his partner to take two runs. Azmatullah, placed at the deep fine leg, accepted the challenge, and he was quick to throw it at the non-strikers’ end.

While Azmatullah’s initial reaction after the direct hit was that he lost, soon after, observing his teammates’ reactions, he realized he got the job done.

The replay on the big screen confirmed the same, as O'Dowd's full-stretch dive went in vain.
