Young Vidarbha batter Atharva Taide had an impressive outing with the bat in Punjab Kings' final IPL 2024 game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Opening the innings alongside Prabhsimran Singh, the stylish left-hander struck a glorious 27-ball 46 before T Natarajan got his prized breakthrough.
The incident occurred during the tenth over of Punjab's innings when Taide and Prabhsimran had got them off to a flying start. Bowling the second over of his spell, Natarajan offered width as Taide went for a cut shot.
Although he had struck it powerfully, the southpaw only managed to find Sanvir Singh, who took a sharp catch at backward point.
Thus, Natarajan's timely strike prevented Taide from registering a well-deserved fifty in the high-voltage face-off.
Despite being a gifted batter, Taide seldom got an opportunity to represent Punjab Kings in the tournament. Notably, this was only his second appearance in the IPL 2024 as he recorded his highest individual score against the Orange Army this season.
Regarding the game, despite losing his opening partner, Prabhsimran continues to be a headache for Pat Cummins and co. As of writing, the visitors were powered to 128 for one in 11.5 overs, with Rilee Rossouw and Prabhsimran unbeaten in the middle.
