Aakash Chopra came out in support of MS Dhoni following Chennai Super Kings (CSK) elimination from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 after a 27-run defeat against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Chopra, after the RCB-CSK clash at the M. Chinnaswamy ground, was in awe of Dhoni's resilience.

Despite the mounting pressure, Dhoni kept the Super Kings in the game while batting with Ravindra Jadeja.

His determination was evident until the very end, when he got out to a back-of-the-hand slower one from Yash Dayal in the second ball of the final over.

"MS Dhoni was there along with Ravindra Jadeja. Dhoni kept them alive. Maybe this was the last time we saw Dhoni. He hit the longest six of this season - 110 meters. He also hit two fours on the leg side. If MS Dhoni hadn't gotten out to the back-of-the-hand ball, he would have won the game," the commentator said.

The 42-year-old came to bat at the beginning of the 16th over after Mithcell Santner fell to a flying catch of Faf du Plessis off Mohammed Siraj

They still needed 90 runs in the last five overs to make it to their cut-off total. The duo added 61(27) from that position before the veteran got out.

As the match reached its climax, with the Super Kings needing 17 runs in the final over, the tension was palpable. The ex-cricketer believed that 201 was still within reach at this stage and credited Yash Dayal for showing his ice-cold nerves in the crunch situation.

"From where he started, it didn't seem like winning the game was possible. Not winning, you know I am talking about 201, winning the match was beyond them. Jadeja was hitting sixes off the first ball of every over. However, Yash Dayal bowled well in the last over. Only 17 runs were required. He saved them and RCB won with a decent margin and progressed," Chopra added.
