The first Test between Australia and Pakistan entered its fourth day on Sunday as the home side strengthened its grip on the fierce matchup.

Despite suffering early jitters, Usman Khawaja and Mitchell Marsh built up a 100+ runs partnership to put the Aussies back in the driver’s seat. With 450 runs lead at its helm, Pat Cummins confirmed the impending declaration with the fall of Khawaja’s wicket during the second session.

As the wicket was swept under the roller during the innings break, cracks opened up, thus instilling a sense of fear amongst the under-pressure Pakistani batters. Openers Imam-Ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique stepped up to face the mighty challenge, but the duo’s stay at the crease was short-lived as Pakistan witnessed a major top-order collapse.

Saud Shakeel's Bad Call Leads To Agha Salman's Run-Out!

With half the side back in the hut under 60 runs, Agha Salman and Saud Shakeel took charge to somehow salvage the blunder and get back in the contest. However, a miscue from Shakeel’s end resulted in an unfortunate and ugly dismissal.

Saud Shakeel tucked a short delivery from Mitchell Starc towards the square leg and tried to steal a cheeky single. However, an alert Travis Head charged down to execute a perfect throw towards the non-striker end, where Salman fell short of the crease.

Apparently, Shakeel called for the run but backed out at the last moment, leaving Salman wandering in the middle of the pitch. The end result further plummeted Pakistan’s chances of survival as Aussies clipped its sixth wicket.

Having said that, Australia bundled Pakistan under 30 overs to go one up in the three-game Test series while extending its unbeaten streak in red-ball cricket against the men in green to 24 years.

As far as the visitors are concerned, they have a lot to introspect about before the second test of the bilateral series goes on the floor on boxing day, i.e., the 26th of December, 2023.
