Agha Salman, the newly appointed Pakistan captain failed in the first T20I match vs New Zealand, but the skipper responded back in style with a gritty 46 off 28 balls as he bailed the Pakistan side out of a precarious situation. The side lost two early wickets and needed someone to resurrect the innings.

Agha Salman, under tremendous pressure did just that as he took the attack to the Kiwi bowlers and gave a respite to his side. At 46, the milestone of fifty was nearby, but the captain miscued a pull shot and was heartbroken as he got dismissed with fifty runs just around the corner.

Had he reached the fifty-run mark, Agha Salman would have become the first captain after Babar Azam to score a half-century against the Kiwis in T20Is.

Agha Salman misses out on Babar's feat

Babar Azam was the last Pakistan T20I captain to score a fifty-plus score against the Kiwis. It was the second T20I between the two sides in 2023 at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore and Babar Azam was at his best as the then Pakistan captain scored a breath-taking 101 off 58 balls and tore apart the Kiwi attack.

This was the last time a Pakistan captain scored a fifty-plus score and Agha Salman had the opportunity to match that feat, but he missed out by just 4 runs. Despite losing the captain, Pakistan batters continued the attack as they etch towards a competitive total.
