The Round 1 of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 saw some stunning and breathtaking action, but not everyone came to the party. While lesser-known players created a buzz, a few big IPL stars had an abysmal day and failed to make an impact

Let’s take a look at three big names who 3 IPL stars who failed in Vijay Hazare Trophy today:

3. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad, the dependable opener and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, had an uncharacteristic flop show today against Rajasthan. Leading Maharashtra, Ruturaj walked out to chase a modest 216 but managed just 1 run off 5 balls before being dismissed. Aniket Choudhary’s sharp delivery got the better of him.

Maharashtra’s innings wasn’t entirely smooth sailing either. After losing Gaikwad early, the team found itself in trouble at 89/5. It was Ankit Bawne’s calm and unbeaten 74 off 95 balls that guided them home with 45 balls to spare.

While the team celebrated a hard-fought win, Ruturaj’s cheap dismissal stood out like a sore thumb. The skipper will undoubtedly look to bounce back in the next game and lead from the front.

2. Tilak Varma

Hyderabad skipper Tilak Varma, known for his consistency, had a day he’d rather forget against Nagaland. Coming in at 88/1, Tilak faced just three deliveries before being clean-bowled by Rongsen Jonathan for a duck. His dismissal came at a crucial time when Hyderabad needed him to stabilize the innings.

Hyderabad’s middle order crumbled, losing quick wickets to sit at 98/4. However, Aravelly Avanish played a captain’s knock in spirit if not in title, smashing a scintillating 100 off just 82 balls. His innings powered Hyderabad to 276, which proved too much for Nagaland, who fell short by 42 runs.

While the win brought smiles to Hyderabad’s camp, Tilak’s failure was a disappointment. He’ll need to regroup quickly and deliver as a leader in the upcoming matches.

1. Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav, the man known for his 360-degree batting, had an underwhelming day in Mumbai’s high-scoring clash against Karnataka. Walking in during the 39th over with the team already at 178/3, SKY looked set to launch into his trademark fireworks. But after a promising start with two crisp boundaries, he fell lbw to Praveen Dubey for 20 off 16 balls.

Despite SKY’s early dismissal, Mumbai posted a mammoth 382/4, thanks to Shreyas Iyer’s blistering 114* off 55 balls and Shivam Dube’s 63* off 36. However, Karnataka secured a victory in just 46.2 overs courtesy of Krishnan Shrijith’s breathtaking 150* off 101 balls.

While Suryakumar’s early dismissal wasn’t the solitary reason for Mumbai’s loss, his inefficacy to deliver a strong finish was undoubtedly a missed chance to tilt the game in their favour.
