The first wicket of the Champions Trophy 2025 has been taken, and it was none other than Pakistan's star spinner, Abrar Ahmed, who struck early. The much-anticipated opening match of the tournament between Pakistan and New Zealand kicked off at the National Cricket Stadium in Karachi on February 19.

After winning the toss, Pakistan decided to bowl first, and their decision paid off as Abrar delivered a crucial breakthrough by dismissing New Zealand opener Devon Conway.

Abrar Ahmed Gets The Prized Wicket Of NZ Opener

The incident took place in the 8th over of New Zealand’s innings. Abrar Ahmed bowled a carrom ball on a good length, targeting the stumps. Conway, expecting some turn, hesitated on the back foot in an attempt to defend.

However, the ball did not turn as anticipated; instead, it straightened just enough after pitching and went on to crash into the off stump. The Kiwi opener was left stunned as his scratchy 17-ball stay at the crease came to an end with just 10 runs to his name.

What made this dismissal even more talked about was Abrar Ahmed’s reaction after taking Conway’s wicket. The Pakistan spinner couldn’t resist mocking the New Zealand batter as he celebrated. He made a gesture as if telling Conway he had completely misread the delivery, adding a bit of drama to the moment.

At the time of writing this article, New Zealand are currently struggling at 48 for 2 in 10 overs, with Will Young and Daryl Mitchell at the crease.
