Bengal cricketer Abhishek Das snared a sensational flying catch near the boundary line against Medinipur Wizards in match number seven of the ongoing Bengal Pro T20 2024 season. Turning up for Howrah Warriors on June 14 at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, an agile Abhishek ran back towards long-on before making a huge leap to hold on to a dipping ball.

His fielding brilliance near the boundary accounted for the dismissal of Deepak Kumar Mahato during the death overs of the Medinipur Wizards innings.


Abhishek Das channels inner Dhawan after boundary catch

During the death overs of the Medinipur Wizards innings, number seven batter Deepak Kumar Mahato stepped out of his crease to whack Howrah Warriors fast bowler Kanishk Seth out of the ground. 

However, Mahato merely managed to find an agile Abhishek Das at the long-on boundary, who covered good distance running backwards before completing a sensational flying catch.

Interestingly, Abhishek celebrated his fielding brilliance by imitating legendary Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan’s thigh slap.

Following the dismissal of Deepak Kumar Mahato, Medinipur Wizards were bowled out for just 132 in 20 overs.

Opening the innings for Howrah Warriors, Abhishek Das managed to score just eight runs in the chase before he was dismissed by Shreyan Swarup Chakraborty. Regardless, the Warriors managed to overcome their 133-run target in the penultimate ball of the match with five wickets to spare.

Howrah Warriors will now go up against Malda Smashers in match number 11 of the Bengal Pro T20 2024 season. The much-awaited contest will be played on June 16 and the action will commence from 7:00 PM IST onwards.
