The 13th match of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025 between Fortune Barishal and Rangpur Riders at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on January 9 turned out to be an absolute nail-biter. Rangpur Riders' captain, Nurul Hasan, pulled off an extraordinary finish, securing a stunning victory for his team in the final over.
The tension peaked as the match reached its final over. Rangpur Riders needed a daunting 26 runs from the last six balls to chase down the target of 198. Kyle Mayers, the West Indies all-rounder, took charge of the bowling for Fortune Barishal, but little did he know that Nurul Hasan was about to deliver a jaw-dropping performance.
What followed was nothing short of magic. Hasan launched an all-out assault on Mayers, smashing the bowler for sixes and fours in an astonishing display of power hitting. He hammered —6, 4, 4, 6, 4, 6—in the last over.
With two runs needed off the final ball, Hasan sealed the game in style by hitting a massive six. He remained unbeaten on 32 runs off just seven deliveries, guiding Rangpur Riders to a remarkable three-wicket victory. The stadium erupted in celebration as fans cheered for their captain's heroics.
A Rollercoaster Ride for Rangpur Riders
The match began with Rangpur Riders winning the toss and opting to bowl first. Fortune Barishal’s openers, Ramom Iqbal and Najmul Hossain Shanto, provided a solid start with an 81-run partnership. However, Kamrul Islam Rabbi broke the stand by dismissing Shanto, and wickets began to tumble for Barishal.
Despite the setbacks, Kyle Mayers played a crucial knock, remaining unbeaten on 61 runs, helping his team post a formidable total of 197.
Chasing a challenging target of 198, Rangpur Riders had a rough start. Alex Hales was dismissed early by Tanvir Islam, and Saif Hassan, who looked in decent touch, departed after scoring 22 runs. The Riders were in trouble, but Tawfique Khan anchored the innings with a patient 38, hitting three big sixes before being dismissed by Rishad Hossain.
Iftikhar Ahmed and Khushdil Shah then took charge and steadied the innings. The duo played aggressively, keeping the chase alive despite the rising required run rate. Their partnership brought the Riders closer to the target, but the game seemed to slip away until Nurul Hasan stepped in.
