Virat Kohli scored his 76th international century on Friday, July 21 at Port of Spain on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against West Indies. Notably, this century is his first ever overseas Test century since 2018.

Adding to his list of accomplishments, the 34-year-old also became the first player to score a century in his 500th match for India across all formats.

Kohli notched up his 29th Test century with a boundary against Shannon Gabriel, a feat that propelled him into an elite list of players holding the most centuries at the no. 4 batting positions in Test cricket.

Taking the reins from the legendary Sachin Tendulkar as India's No. 4 back in 2013, the Delhi batter settled into the role effortlessly; in fact, he mastered that batting position.

Not surprisingly, Kohli had already secured a spot in the top-5 for the most Test centuries at this position. However, on Friday, the star batter surpassed the legendary Brian Lara of the West Indies on this prestigious list.

Notably, Lara had retired with 24 centuries to his name at no.4. Kohli smashed his 25th on Day 2 and is now only behind Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, and Mahela Jayawardene in this list.

Top 5 Centurions at No. 4 in Test History:

  • Sachin Tendulkar (India) - 44
  • Jacques Kallis (South Africa) - 35
  • Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) - 30
  • Virat Kohli (India) - 25
  • Brian Lara (West Indies) - 24

When it comes to active cricketers, Joe Root, the former captain of England, comes closest to Kohli with 19 centuries at no.4. Steve Smith also has the same number of tons as Root at the position.
