VIC-W vs TAS-W: Nicola Carey's all-round show seals the game for Tasmania

Tasmania secured a five-wicket victory over the Victoria in Match 11 of the Women's National Cricket League on Tuesday (October 4) at Melbourne. 


Victoria posts a strong total 

Invited to bat first, Victoria lost Makinley Blows (0) and Ellyse Perry (6) early. Then, the skipper Sophie Molineux (23) stitched a crucial stand of 41 runs with Annabel Sutherland. 

Nicole Faltum added 111 runs for the fourth wicket with Sutherland with her well-compiled knock of 83-ball 61. Afterwards, Sutherland enhanced the tempo of her innings and finished on 111 off 114 balls, comprising 11 fours and a six. 

In the end, Kim Garth (29) and Tess Flintoff (22*) propelled Victoria to a total of 279. Heather Graham was the pick of the bowlers for Tasmania with four wickets, followed by Nicola Carey with two scalps. 


Carey, Villani power Tasmania to a victory

In response to the chase, captain Elyse Villani and Rachel Trenaman provided a mesmerizing start to the Tasmanian team. The duo added 95 runs in the less than 20 overs, before Trenaman was dismissed for 40. 



Coming at number three, Carey was clinical to keep the team steering at an asking rate. Villani's impressive knock of 71 off 95 balls was put to an end by Garth. It was a good helping hand from Naomi Stalenberg, who hit 34 off 38. 

In the end, Carey remained unbeaten on 101 off 83 and sealed the chase for the team, with more than two overs to spare.
