USA international star, Andries Gous, showcased his class in the ILT20 Qualifier 1 and became the player with the highest individual score in the tournament’s history. The explosive batter hammered an unbeaten 120 off 58 deliveries against MI Emirates and tore down their attack with ease in the all-important clash.

The batter took eight balls to smack his first boundary of the innings, but that was just the beginning, as alongside Fakhar Zaman, he forged a 157-run first-wicket stand and laid a foundation for a strong finish. After a. slow start, Gous turned his attention towards Romario Shepherd and he tonked the West Indian all-rounder for two consecutive sixes.

While his first fifty came in 29 deliveries, the next fifty runs came at a rapid speed as the destructive batter took just 24 balls to complete the milestone and became the sixth batter to smash a century in ILT20.

In the penultimate over of the game, Gous once again targeted Shepherd and smacked him for two back-to-back sixes to attain the milestone of the highest individual score in ILT20 history. He broke the record of Alex Hales, who smashed 110 in the inaugural season.

Andries Gous became the first player this season, and the first associate player, to score a hundred. Also, this was the first-ever century in the Playoffs across four seasons.

Alongside Gous, Fakhar Zaman, too, contributed with 69 runs, and Sam Curran chipped in with a quick-fire 38 off 12 as the Vipers won the match by 45 runs.

Gous' knock propels Vipers to grand finale

Gous’ knock was not just any other innings, but it was a match-winning knock that took his side to the finals of the tournament. His majestic knock ensured that the Vipers posted a commanding 233/1 inside 20 overs, and they restricted MI to 188/7, securing a comprehensive win and stepping into the finals with two games remaining.
