It is the season of changes in the IPL. While there are plenty of talks and some big moves as part of the trade window, teams are also looking to overhaul their internal systems. According to a recent report by News24, the Delhi Capitals are considering a new captain ahead of IPL 2026. While Axar Patel will continue as a player on the team, he may not remain at the helm of things.

This opens up the role for senior players in the squad, such as KL Rahul or Faf du Plessis. The franchise management might even look at younger members, such as Tristan Stubbs, keeping an eye on building a squad for the near future.

This brings Faf du Plessis' name to the forefront as the second-best candidate for the role. The South African legend has led his national team, multiple franchises in different leagues around the world. When it comes to experience, there is no lack of that for du Plessis, and he could lead them to their best season yet in history.

Tristan Stubbs: The South African youngster was one of the most important batters in the DC squad during IPL 2025. Tristan Stubbs appears to be a long-term investment for the Capitals. Going ahead the Capitals can project him as a leader and build the squad around him.
